Alamance County, North Carolina, paint decorated chest
Circa 1820 - Alamance County, North Carolina blanket chest decorated with lilies;
HOA 27", WOA 48", DOA 21". (12-006)
Note: This chest was sold at the Stoker estate sale in Greensboro, N.C., around 1982. Thought to be Alamance County then and that attribution can be reinforced now by the foot profile, the M H divided by a star, the cross which so closely relates to the earliest form of the Huguenot cross, and the unusual treatment of the lily petals bursting from the bud. North Carolina blanket chests with this type of decoration are extremely rare. Yellow pine throughout.
